Behind the Spotlight: What Are Staff Picks?
Staff Picks are Top.gg’s way of celebrating bots that wow us each quarter. From clever tools to fun experiences, these highlights spotlight the unique and creative bots you’ll want to add to your server.
Every quarter, our volunteer team takes the time to do something a bit different than just the usual reviewing and moderation: we highlight some of the most exceptional Discord bots we’ve come across.
We call them Staff Picks.
These are bots we find – either in our day-to-day reviewing, or just from our own usage – that blow us away in terms of their quality and content. Staff Picks are meant to celebrate the bots that leave a lasting impression on us, regardless of how well-known they are.
How Staff Picks Work
With thousands of bots listed on Top.gg (and hundreds reviewed just weekly!), it can be overwhelming to find something truly special. Staff picks are meant to help you find that unique bot you’ve been searching for.
During each quarter, our team goes through not only newly submitted bots, but also ones that are already on the site. We look for:
- Innovation – Does the bot offer something new / clever?
- Utility – Is the bot genuinely helpful / useful?
- Fun – Does the bot bring joy / excitement?
- Polish – Is it well-made and easy to use?
As you can see in the above list, we don’t take things like vote count or popularity into our consideration. Staff picks reflect what bots our team believes earn the spotlight for that quarter.
Why Staff Picks Matter
Top.gg hosts a large and creative community; it’s not too hard for some bots to fly under the radar despite their uniqueness and what it brings to the table. Staff Picks not only give these bots and their developer(s) a chance to shine, but also give users a list of selected tools and/or experiences that are worth trying out.
We even feature these picks by adding them in our Discord server, so you can try them out, give feedback, and connect with other users.
Could Your Bot Be a Staff Pick?
There’s no application process or secret to becoming a Staff Pick. If your bot is approved for listing on the site, it’s automatically eligible. We keep an open mind and we're always keeping our eyes peeled for bots that go the extra mile in quality and /or creativity.
Experienced developers and newbies alike have an equal footing when it comes to Staff Picks, so don’t feel discouraged by your skill level!
